Elana Jagoda is a bright new voice on the Jewish music scene! A cantorial soloist, music educator, performer and composer living and working in San Francisco, Elana brings soul and innovation to Jewish music with creative, moving and inspiring Jewish songs for families. With a voice reminiscent of Natalie Merchant, Elana's music blends an energetic folk-rock vibe with engaging world-beat rhythms.
Uri Uri, Elana's second release (2010), highlights her growth as a songwriter since Zum Gali Gali, her first recording from 2007. That CD featured three original compositions out of ten; Uri Uri includes nine original tunes in Hebrew and English, plus one terrific cover of Peter & Ellen Allard's "Seven Days." Producer Saul Kaye's innovative arrangements are lush and layered, showcasing a fluid variety of styles ranging from the reggae/dub beat of "What Are You Thankful For," to the smoky blues piano of "Two Tablets," to the lilting folk groove of "Good Job God" and the lovely, quiet piano-and-string lullaby "Hashkiveinu." Uri Uri is full of fun, sophisticated music that will have Jewish kids and their families singin', dancin', and groovin' along.
