CLASSIC RESOURCE ON TEEN MENTAL HEALTH UPDATED FOR 2005

According to the National Institutes of Health, suicide is the third-leading cause of death among Americans ages 15 to 24. For young people facing an emotional or personal crisis -- and for the parents, teachers, friends and counselors who care about them -- URJ Press introduces a newly revised edition of When Living Hurts.

Highly lauded by Psychology Today and School Library Journal after its initial publication in 1985, this groundbreaking work is targeted at young people who are in trouble or for those who want to help those in trouble. "My message is that we are all our brothers' and sisters' keepers, and that living well is the best antidote for hopelessness, helplessness, feeling unloved, unfairness, and tragedy," writes author Sol Gordon.

In When Living Hurts, Dr. Gordon frankly discusses difficult subjects such as drug and alcohol use, sexuality, relationships, and more in an honest, nonjudgmental way. He also identifies early warning signals of suicide, suggests how to get help for problems, and offers ways to cope creatively with anxiety, anger, frustration, sadness, loneliness, and depression.

A clinical psychologist and sex educator, Dr. Gordon is widely known and lectures on sexuality, family studies, relationships, and suicide prevention. Dr. Gordon has taught at Yeshiva University and is Professor Emeritus of Child and Family Studies at Syracuse University, as well as former director of the University's Institute for Family Research and Education. In addition, he served as Chief Psychologist in the Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic and the Middlesex County Mental Heath Clinic, and is the author of several books on sexuality and adolescence, including How Can You Tell if You're Really in Love and Why Love is Not Enough.

When Living Hurts, Revised Edition is available in paperback from URJ Press and retails for $13.95. For more information on this and other titles, visit www.URJPress.com or call (888) 489-8242.
