Two New Children's Books from the URJ PRESS
Teach Appreciation for God's Creation

An appreciation for God's world and our responsibility to care for it are subtly conveyed in the pages of Solomon and the Trees and The God Around Us, Volume II: The Valley of Blessings, two new children's books from the URJ PRESS. The colorful illustrations and engaging texts of both volumes will bring laughter and smiles to children in grades K through 3 as they learn important Jewish lessons.

Judaism and the Environment:
Solomon and the Trees, written by Matt Biers-Ariel and illustrated by Esti Silverberg-Kiss, is a modern midrash that teaches the importance of conservation and environmental awareness through the story of King Solomon.

As a youthful prince, Solomon spends every spare moment in the forest, appreciating the wonders of nature and communing with the animals. Yet, once he becomes king, his duties force him to leave behind the woods he loves. The construction of his mammoth Temple forces him to understand the price he must pay for neglecting the earth and its blessings.

Solomon and the Trees, which highlights the holiday of Tu BiSh'vat, introduces children to the connection between Judaism and ecology, and the lush illustrations of the gorgeous forest will help them understand the glory of nature.

Blessings in the World Around Us:

The God Around Us, Volume II: The Valley of Blessings is a follow-up the critically acclaimed and treasured book The God Around Us by author Mira Pollak Brichto and illustrator Selina Alko. Based on the tradition that a Jew should say 100 blessings each day, every page of the new volume offers a playful rhyming blessing that a child can say before performing an everyday activity.

Each blessing-from the one said before studying the Torah to the blessing to be said before washing one's hands-is illustrated with vibrant color. The blessings are presented in Hebrew, English, and transliteration, providing both parents and children the means to understand the meaning of the blessing while learning the Hebrew. The God Around Us, Volume II is perfect for teaching young children to notice the moments of wonder that occur in their own lives.

Solomon and the Trees and The Valley of Blessings are both hardcover books that retail for $12.95. They may be purchased directly from the URJ PRESS's Web site, http://URJPress.com, or by calling toll free (888) 489-UAHC (8242).
