URJ Books And Music :: Mitkadem Digital FAQ

Mitkadem Digital FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Mitkadem Digital

What is Mitkadem Digital?
Mitkadem Digital
is the ONLINE, INTERACTIVE version of Mitkadem, the Union for Reform Judaism’s 5-year Hebrew curriculum. Mitkadem is recognized as the leading self-paced, organized, and stimulating way for students to learn Hebrew and prayer.

Why should we buy it?

Mitkadem Digital includes every page, every prayer, and every activity from Mitkadem in an engaging, web-based format. Students can work at home or in the classroom, and teachers can track student progress from anywhere at any time.

How does it work?
Mitkadem Digital is web-based. Users log in to the URJ's e-learning system from a web browser on their laptop or desktop computers to access their digital student packs. There is no software to install. Users can log in from multiple computers (e.g., a student can begin work at school and continue at home), and more than one user can log in at different times on the same computer, but every user needs a username and password. Laptop or desktop computers using Mitkadem Digital should have a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768, an internet connection, and one of the following browsers: Internet Explorer 7 or higher, Safari 5 or higher, or Firefox 3.6 or higher. Browsers must have JavaScript and cookies enabled, pop-up blocker disabled, and a Flash plug-in installed (version 10 or higher).

Does it work on tablets and smartphones?
In order to make Mitkadem Digital fully interactive and as widely accessible as possible, it has been designed using Adobe Flash for web-based use on laptop or desktop computers. It is not optimized for tablets or smartphones, cannot be used on iPads or iPhones.

What does it cost?
Introductory Pricing:
Printed student pack: $7.99 per ramah (level)*
Digital student pack: $5.99 per ramah (level)*
Combo (both printed and digital): $9.99 per ramah (level)* (save 28%)

*Volume discounts are available for URJ member congregations:
Purchase 1-9 units                       receive 15% discount
Purchase 10-25 units                   receive 20% discount
Purchase 26+ units                      receive 25% discount

How much is the learning management system (LMS)?
Mitkadem Digital includes, at no additional charge, full access to progress reports and other tools to manage your Mitkadem classroom. The LMS also allows you to share your own lessons, links, and other resources with your class.

How many ramot (levels) are needed per student?

Typically, expect students to complete 3 to 5 ramot per year. So for example, a Grade 4 class with 9 students would require 27 total ramot (9 students x 3 ramot per student). The combo set (both printed and digital student packs per student) would cost a total of
$202.23 per year (27 x $7.49 per ramah, reflecting a 25% discount for volume purchasing).

When will Mitkadem Digital be available?
Ramot 5 through 13 are planned to be ready for the beginning of the 2012-13 school year. Additional ramot will be released throughout the year.

My Jewish World: An Early Childhood Music Curriculum (Book/CD set)

Music can be a wonderfully effective teaching tool for preschool aged children. My Jewish World guides teachers through the process of introducing and utilizing song in the classroom to teach Jewish values.

In her comprehensive and easy to follow book, Judy Caplan Ginsburgh includes twenty-six songs, religious and secular, that will help to facilitate an environment of fun and learning. Each song addresses important Jewish concepts and many use Hebrew words and prayers. Judy provides comments, activities, and creative ideas, specific for each song, which can be used in the classroom to learn about being Jewish every day. The importance of saying the Sh'ma each morning, learning the Hebrew words for colors, understanding body parts, and the value of cooperation are only some of the Jewish concepts touched on in the book.

In addition, Judy Ginsburgh includes a list of suggested books for many of the topics. These books help to reinforce and expand the lessons laid out in the curriculum.

With a helpful glossary of Hebrew and Yiddish terms and the companion music CD, My Jewish World is a wonderful guide to making music significant in the Jewish classroom.
