Contzius, Erik L. F.
Cantor Erik L.F. Contzius was born and raised in Parsippany, New Jersey. He received his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University, and studied with such Cantors as Jacob Mendelson, Faith Steinsnyder Gurney, and Martha Novick while attending the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, School of Sacred Music. Cantor Contzius serves as cantor and music director of Temple Israel of New Rochelle. He previously served as cantor at Congregation Keneseth Israel in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania and at Temple Israel of Omaha, Nebraska. He also sits on the board of the American Conference of Cantors. Cantor Contzius is featured on several recordings: How Excellent is Thy Name, a solo collection of Jewish Art Music for cantor and pipe organ, Celebrate Chanukah, recorded with the Westminster Choir College’s Youth Chorale; and Yamim Noraim: Days of Awe, a high holy days recording conducted by Dr. Samuel Adler, published by Transcontinental Music. As a composer, Cantor Contzius has written Shalom Rav, as arranged by Bonia Shur and published by Transcontinental Music.
